Can we start the engine at school?
No. Your kart's engine should not be started or run on school premises at any stage of the build. Running a petrol engine safely needs the fire precautions, ventilation, and fuel-handling controls we put in place at our supervised events, as well as the risk-assessment and critical incident paperwork; these simply aren't available in a classroom, workshop, or car park.
Can we drive it around the car park, or test it locally?
No. Your kart shouldn't be driven anywhere outside of a supervised STEM On Track event, whether that's on school grounds, in a car park, or at a local circuit. Whilst these locations might seem inviting, they are fraught with danger, both to the young people but also are likely to damage the equipment itself. Driving only happens once your drivers have completed the relevant Driving Modules and been assessed on the day by our team, with trained marshals and safety cover in place, something we simply can't replicate, control or ensure happens off-site outside of our events. The first opportunity to drive is at Test Day.
