Assigning Modules: The Curriculum, Assessments, & Badges

Teachers can control what students learn and when by assigning modules. This article explains how assignment works, how the curriculum is structured, and how assessments and badges fit in.

First, what "module" means

The platform uses the word "module" to mean a specific piece of learning content, in total their are 39 Build Modules and 39 Learn Modules, plus additional role specific Sprint modules.

The curriculum structure

Curriculum modules are organised into strands:

  • Build — the instructional learning that runs alongside your kart build.
  • Learn — the core knowledge content that links the curriculum to each build session.
  • Sprints — shorter, focused units — including the role specific modules below, in additional motorsport focused content.
  • Role-specific lessons — learning content tied to a student's role in the team, so an engineer and a driver see learning relevant to their job ([Managing your students] covers changing roles)

You do not need to assign a module for the programme to be completed.

If no assignments are made, the student will be sequentially pushed the Build and Learn modules after completion at the top of their home page through the “Coming Up Next” Section.

The running order follows the pattern below:

1Build > 1Learn > 2Build > 2 Learn > 3Build > 3Learn

This continues through all 39 Build and Learn modules with every 6th module being followed by a “Qualifying” Assessment Module.

Assigning a module

  1. Open the Team you wish to add students to by clicking the team name from the sidebar.
  2. Click on the Assignments tab from the Team page.
  3. Select Create Assignment and select the modules and learners you wish to create the assignment for. If you wish to select the whole team, click on the Select all learners tick box.
  4. Once you’ve selected all the modules and learners you can add an assignment name and due date before clicking the Create assessment button.
  5. Assigned modules appear for students on their home page. Use the Impersonate feature to check what it looks like from their side.

There's no single "correct" pacing, assign in the order that matches your timetable and build progress. A typical pattern is to run Build modules in step with the physical kart build, with Learn content between practical sessions.

Assessments

Students complete assessments each half term. These are auto-assigned via sequential Build and Learn module completions or can be teacher-assigned. Assessment results feed into your learner progress view via Learner Profiles ([Reviewing student progress]) and into point scoring ([Points and leaderboards]).

Badges: bronze, silver, gold

Students earn bronze, silver and gold badges as they progress, these badges are awarded for completing all modules with the bronze, silver and gold assigned difficulty. Badges are visible on student profiles and are a straightforward motivator — several schools build their own recognition (assemblies, notice boards) around them.
