How do students earn points?
Points build up as your students complete modules and assignments across the platform: Build, Learn and role-specific content, plus the Sprint Carousel modules, all contribute. Half-termly assessments give two attempts each, with the higher of the two scores counted, so it's always worth a second attempt if the first didn't go well.
They will be able to see both their own person points tally, and therefore where they personally sit within your internal teams ranking. But they will also be able to see the overall team's cumulative score.
Where do I see the leaderboards?
Leaderboards are available within the Race Academy Platform and can be viewed a few different ways: by school, by team, by region, and by age group, so you can see how your team compares at whatever level is most relevant to you.
What's the difference between average and total scores?
Total shows your team's combined points; average shows points per learner, which makes it possible to compare teams fairly regardless of team size. Both are shown on the leaderboard, so check which one you're looking at before drawing conclusions about how your team is doing.
Are points tracked by school or by team?
By team. If your school runs more than one team, each is scored separately rather than combined; this matters for qualification, since it's your team's own scores that count, not your school's overall total. Therefore, it’s good to try and keep your team rosters accurate and stable as the year goes on.
Can we make roster changes right before the Finals?
A module cut-off applies from two weeks before National Finals, after which your team's roster and scores are locked. This is to keep things fair, teams can't adjust who's on their roster late in the year purely to inflate their score. Make sure your final team line-up is confirmed well ahead of this point.
The two-week prior cut-off also mitigates students/schools wishing to simply surge right at the end, completing modules in a single bulk wave, simply to secure the points. We consider this against the spirit of a programme designed with learning, education and experience at its focus.
Is there a detailed points breakdown per assignment?
For a normal Build or Learn or Role-Specific module each student receives 5 points. For the Half-Termly Assessed modules these are scored out of a maximum of 25 points; with points deducted for incorrect answers. But do remember, students receive two attempts at these, with the higher score to count, so it’s always worth them having another go.
